Abstract

Data intensive computing is nowadays a widespread task and continues to necessitate new architectures able to harness both enormous quantities of data and the underlying computational resources. In this scenario, we are witnessing the rise of on-demand general purpose data processing, where the computational resources and the data are likely to be decentralized and outsourced while the logic is still driven by the end-user. Theoretical study of those platforms is still in its embryonal stage. To express limits and powers of such architectures we need new models. To harness the architectures we also need to develop new data structures and algorithms explictly targeted.
