The Department runs a three-year PhD programme in Computer Science, that supports students from Italy and abroad. The PhD programme in Computer Science is part of the School for Graduate Studies "Galileo Galilei". Teaching and supervision are provided by joint efforts of local staff and international experts, so students are hosted in a lively environment and can benefit from connections with international research centres.
The Department is a partner of IP (Italian interuniversitary Partnership) which is a member of EEF (European Educational Forum).
The school was the first to be established in Italy in 1983, and currently enrolls about 40 students. The school has graduated about 170 PhD's, the majority of whom hold academic positions in Italy and abroad, while the others often have leading roles in industries and private research companies.
In order to apply, students are required to hold an Italian "laurea magistrale" or a university degree equivalent to an MSc degree. Foreign applicants shall provide full documentation of their university studies, including course profiles. Applications are due by late summer. Rules for application and forms may be found here. Candidates are expected to have a general knowledge of computer science theory and applications, together with a in-depth knowledge of some research topics in computer science (see here).
Boursary will cover fees and will provide a living allowance.
